Overview
OneNote is Microsoft’s freeform digital notebook. Integrated into Canvas via the OneNote Class Notebook LTI, it allows instructors to create structured notebooks that include:
A Content Library (instructor-only content)
A Collaboration Space (shared workspace for instructors and students)
Private Student Notebooks (individual spaces for each student)
It streamlines distribution of materials, fosters collaboration, and supports cross-device access for teaching and learning at Virginia Tech.

Lock/unlock Collaboration Space.
Add/remove students and co-instructors.
Access course content in Content Library.
Work individually in private notebooks.

Automatic removal of dropped students.
Managing notebooks created outside Canvas (e.g., in Teams).
Limited direct Canvas integration beyond LTI link.
No granular embedding into Canvas modules/pages.
Use Content Library for distributing lecture notes.
Use Collaboration Space for brainstorming sessions.
Assign homework in student notebooks for private feedback.
Create templates for repeated assignments.
Available on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and web.
Supports screen readers, speech-to-text, OCR for images.
Audio recording/playback, searchable PDF files.
Encourage use of OneNote’s Immersive Reader for enhanced accessibility.

Students access OneNote Class Notebook via the Canvas course navigation link.
Content is organized into instructor-provided sections and can be accessed on multiple devices using the OneNote app or web version.

How to Access
Instructor: Enable Class Notebook in Canvas course navigation (Settings > Navigation > Enable Class Notebook).
Student: Access via the Class Notebook link in Canvas course navigation.
