Kaltura

Kaltura is a video management and creation tool integrated into Virginia Tech’s Canvas platform. It supports uploading, editing, captioning, and sharing of videos for teaching and learning purposes. Faculty, staff, and students can access and use Kaltura through Canvas or via video.vt.edu. It is maintained by Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) and supported through the 4Help Portal.

Overview

Kaltura is Virginia Tech’s enterprise video content platform used for capturing, managing, and delivering instructional videos. Integrated directly into Canvas, Kaltura allows faculty and students to upload videos to My Media, share them via Media Gallery, and embed them into course content. Kaltura Capture enables recording of screen, webcam, and audio, making it ideal for lecture capture, student presentations, and asynchronous instruction. Automatic captioning, analytics, and interactive tools, like in-video quizzes, further enhance student engagement.

    Kaltura Desktop Capture is a video creation tool for PC and Mac that simultaneously records multiple content streams or a single stream of your choice. You can add these recordings in Canvas or upload them to an external website.

General Information

  • Students access Kaltura through Canvas under My Media. They can upload, record, or embed videos in assignments, discussions, and group work. Kaltura Capture is available for recording presentations.
