2025-26 Computer Refresh Pilot Programs
2025-26 Computer Refresh Pilot Programs
TLOS invited 2025-26 Computer Refresh participants to participate in the Computer Refresh Fellows or Computer Refresh Plus program.
Computer Refresh Fellows
This new program offered eligible participants the chance to
- Receive a new computer through the Computer Refresh initiative, as before, but also
- Earn a stipend in recognition of their time and contributions, as well as,
- Serve the broader Virginia Tech community by offering support and leadership in technology-enhanced learning and digital fluency for faculty.
Fellows were asked to help raise the bar for teaching and learning across campus and influenced the future of technology-enhanced learning at Virginia Tech. Fellows contributed to the enhancement of the digital fluency curriculum at Virginia Tech by developing instructional media, delivering workshops, offering consultations, and/or participating in peer course reviews.
Computer Refresh Plus (CR+)
Participants in the CR+ faculty inquiry group met regularly to engage with colleagues in exploration of an innovative topic. They created best practices, learning objects, and other artifacts to help implement tools and strategies in the classroom. Additionally, CR+ faculty shared this knowledge with the larger university community in a variety of project showcases. The 2025-26 cycle of CR+ faculty focused on three innovative topic areas
- Teaching with Instructional Media
- Teaching with Artificial Intelligence
- Teaching with Technology
Participants in CR+ received
- Six PDN credits for completing a project associated with one of the topic areas above
- Standard computer model choices
- Up to $500 in equipment upgrades
In addition, to complete all Computer Refresh Program requirements CR+ participants
- Completed six additional PDN credits through workshops of their choosing
- Completed the TLOS Digital Learning Essentials workshop (required for all Computer Refresh participants)
- Shared their knowledge at the April poster-session Showcase
Coming in 2026-27
The Computer Refresh Fellows and Computer Refresh Plus programs will be offered again for the 2026-27 cycle. Based on feedback from the inagural participants, CR+ members will earn all 12 PDN credits for completing their project.
Colleges and departments select faculty to participate in the Computer Refresh Program. Participants for the Fellows and CR+ programs are selected by invitation from among the Computer Refresh cohort members. More information will be shared in the fall. Contact tlos-pdn@vt.edu with questions.
