TLOS maintains technology-driven learning spaces and software in various locations across the Virginia Tech campus and remote campus locations.
Using classroom videoconferencing, Virginia Tech can offer classes throughout the state and share information and instructors with universities around the world. Our Connected Classrooms allow faculty members to meet with their peers without having to leave Blacksburg.
To request a Connected Classroom for a semester, you will need some information about your course, such as the Course CRN, and fill in that information in the 4Help Service Catalog entry.
Collaborative Meetings Spaces
The InnovationSpace has transformed their computer lab into flexible collaborative meeting spaces for faculty and staff. The InnovationSpace has the capability to provide facilitation services for design thinking or other creative brainstorming activities.
TLOS offers course design services that integrate best practices in applying technology-enhanced digital experiences to courses at Virginia Tech.
Instructional Design Consultations
Faculty can choose from multiple options for individual or group consultation and instructional design support for designing new courses, revising and redesigning existing courses and development of full programs or degrees. Ranges from incorporating various interactive technologies (e.g. lecture capture tools, WebEx, etc.) in a pedagogically-sound manner, to assisting with any individual part of the course development process.
Graphics and Web Element Design
Faculty developing or redesigning courses can receive assistance with identification or creation of graphic elements, illustrations, and design of web-based teaching elements for teaching online and in traditional or networked classrooms.
TLOS offers lecture capture and video conferencing services for your courses and educational purposes.
Classroom Lecture Capture (Echo 360)
Echo360 is designed to record a course’s lectures and play them back in Canvas. Instructors can record lectures in in video-equipped classrooms, or record lectures on a personal computer and upload them to the Echo server. Students can then watch the videos in Canvas.
Video Conferencing (One Time Event)
Using Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC), Virginia Tech can offer classes throughout the state and share information and instructors with universities around the world. It allows faculty members to meet with their peers without having to leave Blacksburg.
Interactive Video Conferencing (Recurrent Event)
TLOS also offers Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC) on a recurring basis for classes throughout a semester.
TLOS offers inclusive technology services to individuals with an accommodation referral from either University ADA Services or the SSD Office and students in the regional on-campus transition program (OCTP).
TLOS provides consultation services to help faculty, staff and students identify an appropriate strategy for captioning digital media. For all projects, TLOS can recommend and provide introduction/orientation assistance with a variety of self-service transcription, captioning tools and the integration of caption files in the source location. For approved projects, TLOS can produce text transcriptions or synchronized closed captions (CC) for speech and sound portions of audio or video content including: speaker identification, multi-lingual speech, background noises, and music.
