Accommodations at Virginia Tech
Accommodations are handled on a case-by-case basis, using an interative process to determine where a student or employee regularly encounters a barrier to learning or working. Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) provides accommodation services for the classroom, assisting with short- and long-term needs for students (for example, concussion recovery and ADHD). ADA & Accessibility Services (ADA & Accessibility) provides the equivalent services for establishing workplace accommodations. Graduate students and employees utilizing their tuition benefit, should know that accommodations may need to be established with both offices in order to have the desired access in the classroom and workplace. SSD and ADA & Accessibility collaborate with Accessible Technologies, part of Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies, to provide training and sometimes access to software and hardware based assistive technologies. Additionally, Accessible Technologies oversees a quiet lab space called AT Services to provide access and support universal design for the University.
