Technology-enhanced Learning Showcase
The fall Technology-enhanced Learning Showcase will be held on October 11, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This event is open to faculty, staff, and graduate students. Register to attend in person or virtually. Light refreshments and lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.
Participants can earn up to eight Professional Development Network (PDN) credits for attending.

Custom Canvas Development for the Bridge Experience Program: A Case Study

In this session, we showcase how we can use Canvas in a non-traditional way to meet the data collection, assessment, and reporting needs of the university-wide Bridge Experience program.

The LinkedIn Learning team will share how teachers are using the more than 17,000 on-demand courses and learning paths for both personal and professional development as well as a learning tool for students.
Hypothesis

Virginia Tech faculty members and the Hypothesis team will share how teachers are using annotation-powered reading to help students develop foundational academic skills like deep reading and persuasive writing. In addition to sharing pedagogical best practices for social annotation, facilitators will demonstrate how Hypothesis is used with course readings in Canvas. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how to start incorporating social annotation into their courses to improve student outcomes.

Join us to learn about Technology-Enhanced Learning Grants. Hear from past grant recipients as they share how they used seed funding to integrate and evaluate innovative teaching technologies. Each panelist will provide a 5-minute summary of their project. Grant coordinator, David Duckett, will be available to discuss the TLOS grant programs. Afterward, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions or share experiences incorporating new technologies into teaching and learning.

XCaliber Award: Virtual Green Infrastructure Design Project

Learn how Dr. Megan A. Rippy's Virtual Green Infrastructure Design project integrated R and Unreal to enhance problem-based learning, collaboration, and role-playing/gamification in CEE 4394 (Urban Water Sustainability) and CEE 5390 (Advanced Urban Water Sustainability). The XCaliber Award celebrates courses and significant projects that demonstrate exemplary use of technology and student-centered pedagogy, resulting in high-impact student learning.

In this faculty panel, TLOS Flexible Teaching Fellows will discuss how their participation in the program has helped them move their teaching practice forward. Teaching Fellows receive high-quality flexible and online teaching training through Quality Matters or Online Learning Consortium, two well-known organizations devoted to course quality in technology-enhanced environments. Panelists will provide specific examples of how small changes to instructional strategies or technology implementation can improve student success.

Learning Technologies Specialist, Danielle Thacker will share new Canvas features, expected updates, and what's on the road map for the future. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and ask questions.
